Schelotto wasn’t included in Cesare Prandelli’s latest squad, but he hopes to eventually graduate after winning three caps for the Azzurrini.
“It was important for me to play for the Italian Under-21 side,” the right-sided midfielder told Sky Sport Italia.
“I respect the decisions of Coach Prandelli though. After all, I know that I have to demonstrate that I am worth a place in the squad.”
Schelotto returned to Atalanta this summer after loan spells at Cesena and Catania over the past two seasons.
“I’m happy here,” he added. “I’m playing in a role where I can express myself to the maximum. It’s also nice to know that Atalanta are counting on me.
“The rumours of a move to Inter? They’re a great side, but I don’t want to say anything else out of respect to the Atalanta fans.”
Schelotto has also been paired with Roma too in recent weeks.
