Ezequiel Schelotto says leaving Inter for Chievo Verona would not be a step backwards in his career.

The Argentine-born Italian international joined Inter from Atalanta in January, but he hasn’t been included in the squad for pre-season by new boss Walter Mazzarri.

“One door has closed, but another will open,” he told TMW in an interview. “I’m not part of the squad in Pinzolo, but I have an Inter contract for another four years.

“Whatever the club decides to do will be fine by me and I’m still happy to be an Inter player.

“The decision to not select me was a surprise, but every Coach has his own ideas and he takes the decisions which he wants.

“What did Mazzarri say? I haven’t spoken to him and I don’t know him. I would have liked to have remained, but what can I do?”

Schelotto, a right-sided player, is being strongly paired with a move to Chievo and he would be happy with that destination.

“I’ve played for clubs at Chievo’s level,” he continued. “They have good players and it would not be a step backwards for me.

“I’m satisfied with their interest in me, but I’ll have to evaluate a lot of things and I will do so with calm.”

Schelotto, 23, scored one goal in 12 League appearances for the Beneamata in the last campaign.
