Javier Saviola has explained that choosing Verona was ‘easy’ even if he admits he did have other offers on the table.

The former Barcelona and Real Madrid man was a surprise deadline day signing at the Bentegodi and today has been presented to the media.

“I was immediately struck by the faith the club has shown in me,” Saviola, who takes the No 7 shirt, has told reporters.

“And the possibility of being in Italy, a League that motivates me greatly, and especially at a club whose growth in recent years has been constant.

“So I immediately said yes, it was an easy choice. I had other offers, yes, but I will not comment on them out of respect for my current club.

“A player who arrives at a new team always sets himself a series of targets. Mine now is to integrate quickly into the team, and to do everything to my best.

“I played with Rafa Marquez at Barcelona and we have a great rapport, now I will get to know all the others better too.”

Saviola, Marquez and Luca Toni are names that have expectancy at the Bentegodi still relatively high.

“It is normal that when in a group there are well-known players that from more is expected, especially in terms of experience.

“And in a very long championship like the Italian one, in which the goal is to improve game by game.

“I have changed team so many times, but whether with Barca or a smaller team I have always done things in the same way – with hard work and professionalism.”
