Sampdoria patron Massimo Ferrero is considering an approach to buy the Serie A club from Al-Ittihad owners, it’s reported.

According to newspaper La Repubblica and independent online daily Lettera43, the current owners of Al-Ittihad are interested in purchasing the club based in Genoa.

Ferrero is a movie producer and bought Samp in the summer of 2014 for free, taking on their €15m in debt.

Now Ferrero has some problems to deal with, as he has been given until October 15 to find funds to stop his Cinema Adriano in Rome from being repossessed.

It is reported the club could be sold for around €180-200m and ex-Roma and Inter director Walter Sabatini is helping to broker negotiations.

Sabatini has just been hired by Saudi club Al-Ittihad in Jedda to work with Ibrahim Al-Balawi, who took over from previous President Mansour Al-Balawi, and CEO Khamis Al-Zahrani.

The main problem is the block set by Mohammed bin Salman to stop large sums of Saudi money being invested abroad.
