Sassuolo have reportedly agreed a €10m swoop for Italy Under-21 international striker Lorenzo Lucca from Pisa, although his potential loan could depend on Gregoire Defrel.
According to Sportitalia and Gazzetta dello Sport pundit Alfredo Pedullà, the deal has been done.
It remains to be seen if he will stay at Sassuolo for the rest of this season or go out on loan to get more playing time.
Much depends on Defrel, who has been linked with a potential loan spell at Sampdoria.
Lucca had attracted a lot of interest from clubs including Milan early in the season when he scored six goals in the opening seven Serie B rounds.
However, he hasn’t found the net in the league since October 2, 2021.
He did score for Italy Under-21s in October and November against Sweden and the Republic of Ireland.
The 21-year-old centre-forward is unusual in Italian football, as he stands at a massive 2.01 metres (6ft 6in), so naturally has been compared to 2006 World Cup winner Luca Toni.
Lucca is seen as the natural heir at Sassuolo to Gianluca Scamacca, who is a major target for Inter.
Dopo #Moro, anche #Lucca subito al #Sassuolo: si chiude entro domani e può essere anche girato in prestito. #Defrel in orbita #Samp. Il #Pisa aspetta #Puscas. E soprattutto #Scamacca–#Inter per il futuro… ci sarà tempo @tvdellosport @MCriscitiello
