Maurizio Sarri received high praise following Lazio’s ‘entertaining’ win over Vincenzo Italiano’s Fiorentina, with the Italian press unhappy with the Viola’s ‘reckless defence’.

The Biancocelesti were mostly in control of the match at the Stadio Artemio Franchi yesterday, with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic finally breaking the deadlock in the 52nd minute. Ciro Immobile doubled the Roman club’s lead 18 minutes later, before an unfortunate Cristiano Biraghi scored an own goal to crown off a miserable evening for the Viola.

Sarri was lauded for Lazio’s performance, with Corriere dello Sport noting that “this is how the game is played.” Equally high praise came from Corriere della Sera, who wrote “Lazio won, at times entertaining, thanks to their quality players.”

Italiano had a more disappointing evening, with La Gazzetta dello Sport feeling that “this time he made some wrong choices and on a tactical level he seemed surprised by Lazio.” Corriere dello Sport were harsher, highlighting how the “shooting was conceded to Sarri. Unregulated system, reckless defence.”
