Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri was reportedly called a ‘s*** Italian’ by Burnley members of staff during Monday’s 2-2 draw in the Premier League.

Sarri was sent down the tunnel by officials towards the end of the match, with Daily Mail eyewitnesses explaining how he had become ‘incensed’ with Burnley coaches after they insulted him with the remark.

“Maurizio is very frustrated so would prefer not to come over here,” assistant Gianfranco Zola said after the game.

“He is frustrated about the game, because he’s been sent off, I think he’s been offended as well and didn’t think it was the right thing to do.

“I think he’s been told something from their bench, don’t ask me exactly what, I don’t want to go down that line. We will see what we can do about it.

“We understand it’s a football game and you say words because of the adrenalin but he wasn’t particularly happy about it.

“Maurizio has been sent off while he was trying to help Kevin (Friend, the referee), to tell our players to get into position.

“Kevin misinterpreted that and sent him off so he is very unhappy about it.”

The newspaper explains the former Napoli Coach had been ‘so offended’ that he delegated his media duties to Zola.

The touchline brawl also involved two of the Italian’s backroom team and Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger.

The FA could now launch an investigation into a racially-aggravated offence as the Daily Mail writes the incident was included in the referee’s report.
