Maurizio Sarri has slammed the “crazy” calendar facing Napoli for the next few months after suggesting that he “can’t train” his new recruits until December.

Continuing his interview with Mediaset Premium, Sarri admitted he could not wait for the year to end as he rued a fixture pile-up that meant his Napoli squad would be “very narrow” for the time being.

“The current calendar is madness,” the Coach explained.

“September, October and November are the months when there are 10 days for the national teams and 20 days in which there are seven games.

“It’s crazy because when you consider that some of our new signings arrived in late August, you practically can’t train them until December.

“[Palermo] is a game that poses hidden dangers. Last season, after the international games, away at mid-table teams, we often suffered bad results.

“It’ll be a test to see if we’ve grown on a mental level. De Zerbi seems like a Coach with ideas that will send his team out with great desire, and we have to be ready for that. It’ll be a dangerous challenge.

“I’ve read that Napoli have two teams, but at this time we have very little opportunity to rotate players.

“Maksimovic has to find his best condition, Tonelli has only had two training sessions with the group, Diawara did not train with us over the summer, I’ve never seen Rog because he only arrived yesterday and Giaccherini has just returned from injury and been training for only a few days.

“In the coming weeks, we’ll have a very narrow squad available.”
