Maurizio Sarri saw “another step forward” after Napoli beat Club Brugge and “avoided a collapse in motivation.”
The Partenopei were already guaranteed qualification as group winners, but maintained their perfect Europa League record with a 1-0 victory behind closed doors in Belgium.
“It was a difficult game psychologically, as we avoided a potential collapse in motivation seeing as we were already qualified and the stadium was deserted,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“There were big risks and we were practically without any available strikers. The lads did well to nonetheless play a real game, so this is another clear step forward.
“The lads have been really open and helpful. If someone like Raul Albiol who played at Real Madrid is prepared to change his whole style of playing, then it becomes easier to be a Coach.
“Marek Hamsik should speed up his ideas a bit, as at times he holds the ball for too long before doing anything.”
Napoli rested numerous star names ahead of Monday night’s Serie A showdown with leaders Inter. Is it a Scudetto decider?
“It makes me laugh when people talk about the Scudetto, as there are another 75 points up for grabs this season. I swear to you I struggle with 25 rounds left to consider the Inter game anything other than just important.
“It is important, of course, and we want to make our fans happy. That’s all we’re interested in. From tomorrow morning I will study Inter, but at the moment I just want to go and get some dinner because I’m starving.”
