The former Empoli boss replaced Rafa Benitez, but has only one year of Serie A experience under his belt.

“In order to be a good jockey, you needn’t have been a horse first,” Sarri told reporters at the Perlamora Festival.

“Translated that means I won’t get big-headed. I’m fashionable at the moment and this year everyone was talking about me, people would come to watch our training sessions at Empoli and take notes on our methods.

“It’s possible I’ll quickly go out of fashion too, but the way I work certainly will not change. I just hope it can work at Napoli too.

“I still smoke the same as before and will go on to the field wearing a tracksuit. In that sense I haven’t changed since I was a Coach at Faella. I might have a bit more patience than I used to, but that’s down to age.

“I didn’t ‘win’ because I became Coach of Napoli. I won the day I realised I could be a Coach for a living.”

Sarri admits his bond with Empoli remains strong and will do for a long while.

“For the next 10 years I am sure that at the end of every game I’ll ask for the Empoli result. It was very difficult for me to leave, as we created a real group, grew some promising young players and achieved targets that were previously unthinkable.”
