Television programme Striscia la Notizia turned up at Castel Volturno this morning to award the ‘Golden Tapir’ to the tactician, an award given to someone who has had a bad week.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Sarri repeated his apology, and pointed out that he had gay friends, one of whom had died recently.

The former Empoli boss also asserted that he is not homophobic.

It’s thought Sarri will get away with a two-game Coppa Italia ban, as Mancini is not gay and therefore his alleged words will not be viewed as discrimination.
