Maurizio Sarri admits beginning his Lazio career against Empoli will ‘bring back memories’ and he hopes to ‘start strong.’
The 2021-22 Serie A fixture list was drawn up today, with the Aquile opening in Week 1 with a trip to the Stadio Castellani against newly-promoted Empoli.
This is the club where he started his Serie A career, on their bench from 2012 to 2015, and will be played on the weekend of August 22.
“It’ll be a decisively exciting campaign and the start will bring back memories for me, with the first game at Empoli, where I’ll be happy to return so I can see people I care about,” Sarri told the official Lazio website.
“It’s important to start strong, it will be fundamental also to keep a consistent tempo, because Serie A is always a competitive and difficult tournament.
“We will ensure that we are ready.”
