Maurizio Sarri said it was a game of two halves, as Empoli fought back for a point against Genoa.

“We struggled in the first half and were less sharp than usual, but it’s also fair to say Genoa’s excellent performance made us look even worse,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“After the break we took the game in hand, equalised and we could’ve won it at the end, though perhaps that would’ve been harsh on Genoa.

“It is difficult to be 100 per cent focused for an entire campaign and the same goes for fitness levels. They are essential elements in football.

“It was important to get this point against a Genoa side that is challenging for Europe. From what I saw in the first half, they deserve to get there.”

Lorenzo Tonelli went off after just seven minutes with an ankle injury.

“It’s a sprain, we’ll evaluate it over the next few days.”
