Napoli Coach Maurizio Sarri describes the Europa League as ‘strange and difficult’.

The Partenopei make their season debut in the competition against Club Brugge at San Paolo tomorrow, but the tactician is not keen to make predictions on how far they can go.

“The Europa League is strange and difficult,” Sarri remarked in his pre-match Press conference.

“There are teams which will come in six months from now [from the Champions League], and it’s difficult to speak about a competition when you don’t yet know the participants.

“We’re focused on the group, our efforts have to be geared toward getting to the next round.”

The Vesuviani have failed to win a single game under Sarri so far, but the former Empoli Coach insists players just need time to adapt to his methods.

“We’re committing errors in defence, as opposed to what we should be doing. On Sunday we were man-marking on the first goal, but it’s difficult to change the way of thinking of players who have been thinking a certain way for years.

“In training they have adapted, but in the stress of the game the established way of thinking comes out.

“In the first 10 games I’ve always had the worst defence, but in the end I’ve always had one of the best defences.

“I have a way of understanding football, and I try to impart it.”
