It’s reported Chelsea will eventually buy Maurizio Sarri out of his contract for €5m and a transfer pact with Napoli, as the clause is back from July 1.

According to Sportitalia, the Corriere del Mezzogiorno newspaper and others, Sarri has been told the deal is imminent and should be resolved on Tuesday.

It’ll be worked out for €5m plus a signed document confirming a pact of non-belligerence on the transfer market this summer, specifically pledging not to activate release clauses for Piotr Zielinski, Elseid Hysaj or Raul Albiol.

President Aurelio De Laurentiis declared to the Corriere dello Sport that he had never received a call from Chelsea, but Sportitalia insist that’s because the discussions have been through intermediary Fali Ramadani and Napoli director of sport Cristiano Giuntoli.

It is in Chelsea’s interests to get the deal done for €5m, because from July 1 the famous release clause in Sarri’s contract worth €8m becomes active again.

Italian and English reports are confident Gianfranco Zola will join Sarri at Chelsea as director of sport, team manager or some sort of conduit between club and locker room.

Sarri’s staff will have his old Empoli assistant manager Giovanni Martusciello, who is currently at Inter, along with Marco Ianni, Davide Losi, Massimo Nenci and Davide Ranzato.

They have already been instructed to study the Premier League fixture list and work out training schedules.

All of this cannot be done until Antonio Conte has been formally dismissed and, as he doesn’t seem ready to take on any other jobs, he is likely to take a year out and receive his €10m bonus for early termination.
