Santos President José Carlos Peres says Gabriel Barbosa wants to return and “we’re moving toward an agreement” with Inter.

The striker, known as Gabigol, joined the Nerazzurri from the Brazilian giants for €33.5m in the summer of 2016, but he failed to make a single Serie A start and scored only once.

This summer he was loaned to Benfica, but the Brazilian international isn’t playing there either, so he wants to return to his former club this month.

“There’s a dialogue underway with Inter,” Peres confirmed to FPF TV.

“We made our offer and now we’re waiting for a response. It’s all done between ourselves and the player.

“Now it all depends on Inter, who are owned but he Chinese. We’re moving toward an agreement.”

If a deal is reached, it will almost certainly be a loan, with the Beneamata paying a significant portion of Gabigol's wages.
