A loan to Benfica this term has also seen the forward known as Gabigol fail to break into the first team, so he wants to return to Santos.

Now Globoesporte is reporting that a deal is very close, with the Brazilian club set to sign their former player back on an 18-month loan for a fee of €1.5m.

Santos have also agreed to take on around half of Gabigol’s wages for the duration of the loan, but they can't afford that at his current salary.

He will therefore have to be convinced to lower his salary for 18 months, but it’s thought the 21-year-old would be willing to do so to end his European nightmare.
