Striker Federico Santander claims that Bologna will “fight for European qualification” next season under Sinisa Mihajlovic.

The centre-forward scored eight times in Serie A this season and is currently with the Paraguay squad at the Copa America in Brazil.

“With Mihajlovic as our Coach we can do great things,” Santander told TuttoMercatoWeb.com.

“New players will arrive, and we’ll see how they fit in, I wasn’t afraid that we could have lost Mihajlovic as our Coach, because he told us he would stay at the end of the championship.

“We can certainly improve on our tenth-place finish from last season. When I arrived at Bologna I did so with the ambition of being able to qualify for the Europa League or even the Champions League.

“Obviously, it’s difficult to believe that we can reach that goal, but with Mihajlovic we can improve and fight towards reaching European qualification.”

Bologna announced today that Walter Sabatini would be joining the club as a technical director and Santander was asked about his thoughts on the move.

“I know there were some changes made at the club, but I wasn’t following as I’m focused on the Copa America.”

The 28-year-old started Paraguay’s opening game of the Copa America on the bench and watched on, as his country blew a two-goal lead against Qatar.

“We could have done more against Qatar, and put them under more pressure, but the draw is still a useful result. However, it does make it more difficult for us, as we now have to play Argentina.”
