Marco Giampaolo explains the secret to Sampdoria’s success – “sacrifice isn’t limited to just two months”.

The Blucerchiati climbed to fifth in the Serie A table today, with a win over Chievo at Marassi.

“It was a difficult game against a mentally and physically strong Chievo,” Giampaolo said in his post-match Press conference.

The Blucerchiati climbed to fifth in the Serie A table today, with a win over Chievo at Marassi.

“It was a difficult game against a mentally and physically strong Chievo,” Giampaolo said in his post-match Press conference.

“We expended a lot of energy in the first half, then the quality of our players shone through. They did well.

“The only thing that disappointed me today was the pitch, it was really bad. We need to take care of our pitch, today the ball was bouncing about like a rabbit.

“The lads were extraordinary though, the team is approaching matches in a serious way.

“I told the squad that to achieve important things you need to be willing to sacrifice some things, and sacrifice isn’t limited to only two months.

“We need to work on ourselves and even renounce some things, but the reward for that sacrifice can be high.

“I don’t look at the table, even if it gives us self confidence, we just need to think about playing our own games as well as possible because there are always three points available.”

Fabio Quagliarella got another fantastic goal this afternoon…

“Fabio scored a wondergoal and I only realised after it went in. It’s the kind of thing Fabio can do and I think the fans enjoy watching him.

“He continues to be a player who feels good and scores goals.”
