Serie A side Sampdoria have reportedly decided to axe Ciro Ferrara after the 3-1 reverse at Catania on Sunday.

Doria only appointed the tactician in the summer after he was convinced to leave the Italian Under-21 set-up.

Samp, three points above the drop zone, had started the season brightly and even kept faith with Ferrara after seven straight losses.

However, after wins over Genoa and Bologna, one point from the next nine available have apparently forced the outfit into a change.

Delio Rossi and Edy Reja are the early front-runners to replace Ferrara who was also sacked by Juventus during his only previous Serie A job.

Doria started the season with a one-point penalty.

Sporting director Pasquale Sensibile's job is also said to be on the line.
