Vincenzo Montella admits Sampdoria are struggling with a “lack of confidence” after four successive defeats.

The Blucerchiati sacked Walter Zenga last month and brought in the former Fiorentina Coach, but their fortunes have so-far not improved.

“The most obvious thing is the lack of confidence,” Montella explained, speaking at a Press conference ahead of a training camp in Catania.

“The expectations were different. But we have to recreate trust in ourselves, and we’ll do that through hard work.

“We have to resolve some misunderstandings, but the team is growing. I’m convinced this is an opportunity for important work.

“I believe I can improve myself as a Coach, the situation is difficult but not impossible.

I’m optimistic and confident I made the right choice, resigning is unthinkable.

“Why the training camp? It was a decision taken together with the club which will also help me to learn more about the squad. It’s a way to promote togetherness.

“I chose Catania for so many reasons. There are adequate facilities for professional teams, and I know the place well.

“The weather, fingers crossed, will be calm.”
