Marco Giampaolo insists that while Sampdoria are “bothered” by their run of three straight defeats, their morale remains unaffected.

Goals from Simone Verdi and Mattia Destro either side of half-time earned Bologna a 2-0 victory over Samp, who also had Edgar Barreto sent off, on Wednesday, but Giampaolo refused to criticise his players once more.

“We approached the game well and tried to play [our football] in the match,” the Coach told Radio Rai after the game.

“A lot of things went well, the only flaw is that we had little depth and all the possession we had didn’t turn into scoring chances.

“We conceded a goal 30 seconds before half-time, which penalised us on a morale level.

“In the second half, the game was uphill because some players lacked condition and we were down to 10 men.

“I must say that despite this, the team sought to try until the end. We must cast [this result] aside and start again stronger than before.

“Three defeats in a row bothers us, but we’re at the start of the season, the campaign is long and it’s all to play for.

“It doesn’t affect the morale of a young team like ours.”
