Salernitana defender Matteo Lovato was stretchered off after a clash of heads and it is now reported he was knocked unconscious during the game with Cremonese.

The accident occurred in the early minutes of the second half following a collision with forward David Okereke.

His teammates and opponents rushed to his aid, as Lovato crumpled to the ground and was not reacting to their questions asking if he was alright.

The medical staff attended and the 22-year-old did regain consciousness, so they managed to stabilise him and stretcher the player off the field.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Salernitana staff took him to a nearby hospital for tests as a precaution to make sure there was no serious damage.

There are concerns that Lovato might be suffering from concussion.

The defender originally came from the Genoa youth academy and moved to Atalanta via Verona in the summer of 2021.

He was then sold to Salernitana for €7m in July 2022.
