Salernitana President Ciro Iervolino is unhappy with the postponement of the game against Napoli: ‘It rewards those who put more pressure.’

The Derby della Campania was initially scheduled for Saturday, 29, but was postponed to Sunday for security reasons. The Partenopei will win the title if they beat their rivals and Lazio fail to beat Inter at San Siro.

“I have the utmost respect for Napoli and their fans and the Scudetto is a prize for a formidable season,” Iervolino told Gazzetta.

“I hope the match will be the celebration of the South, represented by two teams who have had a great season, although in different parts of the table.”

Nevertheless, the Granata President is unhappy with the decision taken by local authorities and confirmed by Lega Calcio.

“I am really sorry, the certainty of the fixture list is the focal point in our industry,” he argued.

“It’s bad because it rewards those who put more pressure. I am not doing a drama, but this decision affects us from many points of view. For example, we’ll have less time to prepare for the game against Fiorentina. Our players will have more pressure, but we’ll go to Naples to play our game.

“Our needs were not considered the dignity of one team has been mortified in favour of another one,” he continued.

“I hope it will never happen again. I am embittered because Salernitana were not involved, it would have been fair to speak at the Lega Calcio and also postpone our game with Fiorentina.

“I don’t want to cause controversy, I respect institutions. We were told that it was preferable to celebrate inside the stadium, but by saying so, they suggest that there could be troubles around the city.”
