Astori is also wanted by the likes of Napoli, Everton and Juventus” data-scaytid=”9″>Juventus, but the Saints appear to be in the lead.
According to the Italian newspapers, Southampton have offered €10m, whereas Cagliari are holding out for €12m.
There are also suggestions that Astori has failed to agree contract terms with the English club, letting Napoli back into the race.
Southampton have already done business with Serie A over the summer, bringing in Gaston Ramirez from Bologna.
