“He is a great catch for the national team and for Carlo Tavecchio,” Sacchi has told the Gazzetta dello Sport today.

“To introduce yourself with the Coach who has won the last three Scudetti is a nice start for Tavecchio.

“Antonio is one of the best Coaches in the world, his philosophy of football is modern.

“He has great abilities to instruct as well as an elevated sensitivity that allows him to correct things like the small mistakes players may make in training.

“There is no doubt in the value of Antonio, but are the Federation and our football system able to action the reforms necessary to help get us out of this current situation?

“Today, on the contrary, it is hoped that the national team can help our unstable world of football to survive.

“But, without an efficient, organised and modern system, it is much more difficult and even eventual success on the pitch would be short-lived.

“We would have won a battle but not the war.”
