Milan legend Arrigo Sacchi has given Stefano Pioli advice on how to avoid ‘football suicide’ against Inter in the Champions League semi-final.

It kicks off this evening at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

The Rossoneri have a 2-0 deficit to make up after losing the first leg, but as the away goals rule no longer applies, any victory by a two-goal margin would be enough to spark extra time.

“I know full well that Inter have a clear advantage, but it wouldn’t be the first time that we’ve seen remarkable comebacks in football,” Sacchi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“So let’s keep our eyes open and enjoy the spectacle.”

Having said that, the European Cup winning coach admits this will be need to be pretty extraordinary if we are to see Milan in the Champions League Final against either Real Madrid or Manchester City.

“There are a few certainties that need to be underlined. The first is that Inter are going through an excellent period of physical form. The second is that they have superior individual qualities to their opponents, and the third is they have greater experience. From all that, we can tell Milan need something truly remarkable.”

There is still hope for Pioli and Sacchi has some specific advice for how to deal with Simone Inzaghi’s side.

“I would focus everything on a high press. You cannot give Inter space to play in, because that would be like football suicide.”

The city neighbours have faced off four times already this season between Serie A, the Supercoppa Italiana and the Champions League, with Milan winning the first meeting 3-2 and losing the next three on the bounce.
