“It would be petty to deny Lazio had an extraordinary season, worked hard, improved their performances week after week and had some wonderful results,” the Giallorossi director told Sky Sport Italia.
“We started the campaign well, fell away and so the momentum is with Lazio at this moment, but it’s a head-to-head and anything can happen. We’ll be up to the task.”
Roma were irritated that the Lega Serie A opted to move this game to Monday, as Lazio played the Coppa Italia Final against Juventus last Wednesday.
“Moving the fixture was bizarre, as Roma have always played on Wednesday and again on Sunday. We have to laugh and joke about this, but perhaps people ought to look at these things more carefully.”
Roma had slipped down to third place, but appear to have rediscovered their form against Napoli, Genoa and Sassuolo.
“After a system that had worked for 18 months ran into some issues, we had to adapt and become more solid in defence.
“The Coach found a new way of attacking and we want to get back to that style of football, but perhaps at this moment it is not possible.”
