“It was a difficult game, even more difficult than in Lisbon,” Rui Patricio said of that 1-0 win in September.

“Italy pressed very well and we had difficulties in getting hold of the ball. But we fought for a result that gives us access to the next stage and we succeeded. 

“We did not have a great game, but we got what we wanted.”

Portugal are now guaranteed top spot in the group even before their final game against Poland on Tuesday.
