Daniele Rugani’s agent confirms only that Juventus have ‘discussed the potential, I do not want to say the desire, to extend his contract.’

There were suggestions this morning that agent Davide Torchia had met with director Cristiano Giuntoli to go over the proposal.

It would seemingly involve lowering his current salary from circa €3.5m per season to €2.5m plus bonuses.

“We are always optimistic, but let us not get ahead of ourselves,” Torchia told Tuttomercatoweb.

“Giuntoli discussed the potential, I do not want to say the desire, to extend his contract. It is no secret that this was first considered in the summer, we are pleased and Daniele is happy because he is increasingly tied to this club.

“He never thought about leaving, even when there were many champions standing in his way and he didn’t play as often. He always said that as long as the club was happy, he would want to remain.

“They appreciated the value of the man as well as the player.”

The 29-year-old centre-back is currently only under contract with Juve until the end of this season.

He came to the Bianconeri from Empoli in 2015, though there were loan spells with Stade Rennais and Cagliari.
