“The question of the Scudetto always arises in Rome. Of course, we want to become champions of Italy again one day. But this year the Coppa Italia and the Europa League are also still possible.”

Rudiger has been repeatedly linked with a move away from the Lupi, but he insists he’s happy in the Eternal City.

“There’s a lot of media in Italy! The team has helped me a lot, and I can’t complain about the support the Coach [Luciano Spalletti] has given me, both before and after my injury.

“Of course, for this you’d have to talk to my agent. There’s a clear division of labour in my family.

“My brother, Sahr, deals with these things and keeps them well away from me, so I can do what I do best, which is to play football.

“I’m currently very happy in Rome, I’m playing for a strong club and I have objectives here. So I’m not really interested in that right now.”
