The defender is recovering from injury but is likely to start featuring in the Giallorossi line-up very shortly.

In his presentation to the Press, he discussed the challenges posed by the Champions League.

“Leverkusen are very strong and they play like we do, pressing up high, but we've got nothing to fear,” he said.

“The first games are always the most difficult, as there are some new players.

“Juventus are very strong but we played well. I hope I can give my all for this team.”

The 22-year-old has a reputation for being a rough player, but he played those rumours down.

“I don't know what you've been reading, I'm a chilled guy. I always show a lot of respect. I've matured since I was 19.

“I picked up a few red cards but I've developed since then.”

Finally, Rudiger was asked why he chose specifically the Italian league.

“Italy is famous for the defensive work done here, so for me it's excellent.

“Me as a starter? I'll do my best, but that's down to the Coach.”
