The Fiorentina” data-scaytid=”3″>Fiorentina man’s omission from Cesare Prandelli’s final 23 on Sunday evening drew speculation that it was down to having not yet fully recovered from a knee injury sustained in January.

However, the national side’s team doctor has followed up the 27-year-old’s own assessment on Twitter that in that regard, he was fine.

“The work done with Rossi and for Rossi was extensive, without any superficiality,” Castellacci [pictured, left] has explained to reporters at Coverciano today.

“We have never denied that from a medical viewpoint he was quite good and had recovered well enough.

“Against him were the decisions of the Coach, from technical, physical and psychological aspects. It was not easy.”

Italy today posed for their official pre-World Cup team photo, ahead of  this afternoon travelling out to Perugia for tomorrow night’s match with Luxembourg.
