Giuseppe Rossi’s agent says his client is unhappy to have been left out of Italy’s World Cup squad.

The Fiorentina forward has been racing against the clock to be fit for the competition and looked to have played himself into serious contention after he came through 70 minutes of the Azzurri’s friendly against Ireland last night.

However, Cesare Prandelli opted against taking the 27-year-old to Brazil in the end, including Lorenzo Insigne instead.

“I think, during the heat of this moment, the best thing to do would be to accept Prandelli’s decision,” Federico Pastorello told Calcio News 24.

“Did I expect it? I don’t ever expect anything to tell the truth. First everyone said yes, then everyone said no, so I seriously wasn’t expecting anything.

“I was just waiting for Prandelli to make the decision. I’m not surprised with this decision but I wouldn’t have been surprised if he’d been included.

“I am talking to Rossi via text messages. He is definitely unhappy, there is no doubt about that. He has worked incredibly for five months to try to reach this target and it hasn’t happened for him.

“He definitely can’t be happy about it.”
