On from this, reports today also indicate the former Manchester United man will soon be ready to return to the training pitch.

Corriere Fiorentino reports that Rossi will return to rehabilitation on the field over the Christmas break, as long as he gets the ok from US surgeon Richard Steadman, who carried out the player’s knee surgery and rehabilitation.

The newspaper reiterates that Rossi will fly back to Florence from the US this Thursday, signalling the start of his latest comeback.

Rossi has suffered a series of knee injuries during his career, playing just 31 League games over the past four seasons for Fiorentina and Villarreal.
