Rossi, signed in January from Villarreal, is currently rehabilitating in America after sustaining serious knee ligament damage.

The Italian international will transfer to Tuscany later this month before a check-up with professor Richard Steadman on April 4.

In October 2011, Rossi snapped ligaments in a League game against Real Madrid. In April 2012, he damaged the same knee before he could make his comeback.

At the start of this year, the Viola signed the former Manchester United man for around €10m.

“Pepito Rossi is doing well and he’ll play a few games this season,” Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade told the Corriere dello Sport today.

“The objective is for him to take part in four or five matches.

“Did we risk losing him on the market? We were a little worried. When the news broke, we feared that he may have slipped through our fingers.

“That’s why we opted to close the deal in 24 hours.”
