Genoa have confirmed that Giuseppe Rossi will be out for at least 10 days with a thigh injury.

The striker signed for the Grifone on a free transfer, having recovered from the latest in a long line of serious knee injuries.

Since joining his new club the Italian international has managed just two substitute appearances, and he’ll also miss the visit of Udinese this weekend.

“Genoa Cricket and Football Club announces that the player Giuseppe Rossi has undergone tests which showed a muscular injury to the anterior rectus femoris of the right thigh,” a statement on Genoa’s website announced.

“The club’s clinical staff have scheduled further assessments in around 10 days to monitor the evolution of the clinical picture.”

Since scoring 32 goals in 56 games for Villarreal in the 2010-11 season, Rossi has managed just 79 league appearances across six seasons.

He ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament against Real Madrid in October 2011, before being struck down with the same injury on April 13 the following year.

Rossi scored 16 goals in 21 Serie A games for Fiorentina in 2013-14, but missed four months with a medical collateral ligament injury.

Cesare Prandelli opted not to take him to that summer’s World Cup, and the striker then missed over a year with a medial meniscus injury.

Last season he was loaned to Celta Vigo, and on 3 April 2017, Rossi scored a hat-trick in a 3–1 home win over Las Palmas.

Just six days later though he once again ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and he was released by Fiorentina in the summer.

Muscular injuries are not uncommon for players recovering from knee injuries, particularly someone like Rossi who has suffered so many.
