Giuseppe Rossi is “optimistic” for his return from injury and Fiorentina’s chances of clinching third in Serie A.

The forward has been out of action since undergoing yet more knee surgery over the summer and presented his new book to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I am doing well, I’m recovering and things are progressing in the best possible way. It takes patience, but I am optimistic,” said Pepito.

“I am aiming high and hope for a satisfying 2015. I want to get back on the pitch, because that is where I feel happy.”

Fiorentina have struggled for goals without Rossi’s contribution and had numerous other injury problems with Federico Bernardeschi and Khouma Babacar sidelined.

“I see Fiorentina doing well, as we are unbeaten in four and now hope for a fifth. I’d love to play alongside Mario Gomez, as he’s a champion.

“We can challenge for third place and it requires the kind of consistency we’ve seen from our team recently.”

Fiorentina will face Tottenham in the Europa League Round of 32 in February.

“They are a difficult team, especially on home turf. We know them well and it’ll require great focus.”
