Delio Rossi hopes he is “up to the President’s expectations” after signing a new two-year contract with Sampdoria.

The Coach took over from Ciro Ferrara in December and took the Blucerchiati to Serie A safety, so was today handed a two-year deal.

“When I arrived we talked about getting to know each other and then maybe continuing our journey together,” he told SampTV.

“A month ago I talked about the future to the President, but we still weren’t certain that we’d be in Serie A. The signature was already on the contract, though, and today we officialised this marriage.

“I hope to be up to the President’s expectations. We discussed what the team will be like next season, as our philosophy does not change.”

President Edoardo Garrone also spoke about the decision to give Rossi a long-term contract.

“The fact Rossi wanted to wait until today showed great professionalism. It wasn’t so much an issue of superstition, but he wanted to be absolutely sure he was the right person for Samp.

“This is one of the reasons why I am so glad to be working with him for the next few years.”

A two-year contract was also signed by director Carlo Osti, who confirmed “Daniele Gastaldello and Pedro Obiang will certainly stay with Samp.

“Simone Zaza’s contract expires in 2014 and we want players who are happy to wear our jersey. If there is interest in the player, then the clubs will come knocking on our door.”
