Transfer target for a number of Serie A sides, Villarreal’s Giuseppe Rossi has surprisingly hit out at his agent for encouraging speculation.

Rossi, who is currently recovering from knee ligament damage suffered in late October, has been the subject of reported interest from a number of clubs across Europe in recent transfer windows, but has so far stayed put at El Madrigal.

Valued at between €24m and €30m and otherwise anticipated to leave current relegation battlers the Yellow Submarine in the coming summer, Rossi has released statements to the contrary this week.

“[My agent Federico Pastorello] speaks a great deal and I’m angry with him for those statements, which do not reflect the truth,” the 25-year-old told El Periódico Mediterraneo in a long interview.

“Now we have clarified things and I have told him that at Villarreal I cannot be touched, because for me, this club is like a second family.

“[Leaving] is not something I am thinking about. I understand people read newspapers and believe what is published, but sometimes things are not true and that makes me angry.”

Rossi is in his fifth season with the Valencian club, for whom he has so far netted 82 goals from 192 appearances.
