The agent of Giuseppe Rossi would have preferred his client to have been ignored by Italy boss Cesare Prandelli for this month’s internationals.

The Fiorentina player has been recalled to the set-up after missing most of the last two seasons with recurring knee ligament damage.

Rossi has made a fine start to the season with six goals in nine games, but Andrea Pastorello is concerned the recall may have come too early.

“Actually, I was hoping that he would not be called up by the Coach because he seems fatigued after the recent calf problem,” Pastorello told Radio Toscana.

“Obviously he is delighted with selection, but I was hoping he could make use of this international break to rest because he has been used a lot more than expected so far this season.

“The goal is still to get to the World Cup, so in a sense I can understand Prandelli who wants to see how he gets on with his teammates.”

The forward hasn’t played for his country since October 2011.

Italy face Denmark and Armenia in their final two World Cup qualifiers over the next week, even if they have already booked their place at Brazil 2014.
