Giuseppe Rossi’s injury nightmare drags on and Villarreal have been relegated, so his agent tells Serie A sides “he is an investment for the future.”

The striker was set to be the star of Euro 2012 for Italy, but after six months out with a knee injury he snapped the same ligament and will be sidelined for another nine months.

“Villarreal’s relegation took everyone by surprise and nobody was prepared for this to happen,” Federico Pastorello told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“Pepito will have to be off the pitch for another nine months due to the new injury which, among other things, was caused by a botched operation in Valencia.

“Anyone who buys him today will obviously have the opportunity to deal with Villarreal at very different price-tags to the ones bandied about in the past. It’s only natural this player can be an appetising prospect.

“Clearly paying wages for someone who cannot play before March 2013 represents an investment for the future.

“I am convinced if someone approaches the matter this way, then we can work out the timing and methodology.

“I am in continual contact with Villarreal, so if there were to be any proposals then we’d talk them over.

Napoli? We never ruled them out in the first place, so anything can happen.”
