Luka Romero admits scoring his debut Serie A goal for a Lazio victory is ‘the best gift in the world’ as he makes history becoming the second-youngest scorer for the club.

The striker is eight days shy of his 18th birthday and came off the bench to turn in the rebound from Pedro’s parried shot, the only goal of the 1-0 win over Monza.

“It’s enormously emotional scoring at the Olimpico in front of all these people. I am very happy with the goal and the three points,” Romero told Sky Sport Italia.

The teenage Spaniard rushed to the touchline after his goal to celebrate with fellow countryman Luis Alberto.

“The whole team always gives me advice and I am very pleased about that, as they help me to grow. Luis Alberto is a special friend for me, so is Pedro.”

Coach Maurizio Sarri has put a great deal of faith in the youngster, who broke his Serie A duck this evening at the age of 17 years and 357 days.

He is the second-youngest Lazio player to score in Serie A after Alessandro Capponi, aged 17 years and 129 days during a 2-1 win over Lucchese in December 1936.

“For me and the whole squad, the coach is so important, we need to follow his guidance and keep winning.”

With his 18th birthday coming up, what present will Romero wish for?

“This is the best gift in the whole world. I want to salute my mother and brother who watched the game in Mallorca.”
