Vincenzo Montella has suggested that he would not have enjoyed the same patience at Roma that Luis Enrique is currently receiving.

Montella coached the Giallorossi to the end of the last season after stepping in for the sacked Claudio Ranieri in February.

However, the former striker was not kept on as Thomas Di Benedetto's takeover went through and Spaniard Enrique was chosen to shepherd in a new philosophy at the club.

Speaking on Wednesday night after leading his Catania side to a credible 1-1 draw in the capital against Lazio, Montella declared it was probably right that he left the Giallorossi in order to develop as a Coach.

He also interestingly hinted that had he started as Enrique did with Roma, that he would have been sacked by now.

"I do not think I would have been the best choice for them at the time. I found a major club like Catania who are helping me work well. It was the right choice.

"Now imagine if I had started the season eliminated from the Europa League and with just two points in the standings…maybe now I'd be doing commentary."
