Former Roma President Rosella Sensi marked the 10th anniversary of their last Scudetto, which was won on June 17, 2001.
“The first thing that comes to mind is my father,” revealed the daughter of ex-patron Franco Sensi. She took over after his ill health and eventual death.
“The night before the game he was pacing around the house in worried fashion, but after the victory we celebrated like crazy.
“He went in all the areas of the city to celebrate with the fans. ‘I managed to give them that great joy of the Scudetto,' he told me. I have splendid memories of that day.”
That remained the one and only Serie A title of the Sensi era, as the club has been sold to American investor Thomas Di Benedetto and his associates.
“The symbols of that Scudetto were Francesco Totti, who has always stood by Roma whether we won or not.
“Then Gabriel Batistuta, Vincenzo Montella, Eusebio Di Francesco and Amadeo Mangone, those men who kept the locker room united.
“Of course also Damiano Tommasi, an exemplary professional who kept his emotions under wraps and had nerves of steel, but when it came time to celebrate he was just as liberated as the rest of us.”
