Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has explained why he opted to hire Rudi Garcia as the club’s new Coach.
After the appointments of Luis Enrique and Zdenek Zeman didn’t work out over the last two seasons, the Italians turned to the 49-year-old Frenchman.
“I followed him with curiosity after he won the French title with a team of kids,” Sabatini told Canal Plus.
“I invited him to a meeting in Milan this summer and he cut short his holiday to come and see me. He immediately underlined great enthusiasm.
“I was convinced by him instantly and I follow my instinct. By the time he left our meeting, I had already chosen him.”
Garcia quit Lille in the summer after leading the club to the Ligue 1 and Coupe de France double in 2010-11.
Roma have started the season with two wins from two in Serie A. They are away at Parma this weekend.
