Both sides were fighting for the Scudetto in the first half of the season, but have fallen off the pace and are now scrapping for the third and final Champions League position.

Roberto Mancini’s side have won just once in their last six Serie A games, but the Viola captain does not believe Sunday’s opponents are in crisis.

“We have a lot of games to play, while they don’t have to play in Europe,” Rodriguez noted in a Press conference ahead of the match.

“I don’t the the Nerazzurri are in crisis, they’re fighting for big objectives and they’ll want to win on Sunday just like us.

“They have players up-front who are dangerous, world-class. But I have faith in my Fiorentina, we’ll do well.

“Mauro Icardi? He’s not overrated. He still has a lot of things to learn, but he’s a great player.

“Is he more difficult to mark than Paulo Dybala or Gonzalo Higuain? Dybala plays a different way. Higuain and Icardi are definitely similar, but the Napoli striker is more of an all-round player than him.”

Fiorentina beat the Beneamata 4-1 at San Siro in the first half of the season, but Rodriguez doesn’t think a repeat is on the cards.

“It’s hard to repeat that game, there was a penalty at San Siro which changed everything. We’ll go onto the pitch with the same desire to win.

“We’ve learned so much, we’re a strong team and we’ll give everything. We did everything well in that game, but it was another Fiorentina.

“What’s different? It’s hard to play the way we did before, other teams know us and it’s increasingly difficult to play our style.

“I’ve always been calm though, because I see a team with a desire to work hard, win and play well.

“Third place? We definitely believe we can do it, but it’s difficult. We’re focused on that goal, every game will be like a final for us.”
