Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says Mario Balotelli will not leave, despite dropping him for Saturday’s FA Cup tie.

The Italian international has struggled since moving to Merseyside this summer, failing to score in 12 Premier League appearances, and was dropped from the squad completely for the 0-0 draw with Bolton.

“It's been a difficult period for him but he's a good boy,” Rodgers said of Balotelli.

“It's been a difficult period for him but he's a good boy,” Rodgers said of Balotelli.

"I've seen some bits [in the newspapers] this morning suggesting that's him done here. That's not the case at all.

“I've shown in my time here that if players who have been out the fold for various reasons work hard every day in training, and show intensity and focus, then they have every chance of getting back in the side and staying there."

The striker has been linked with a return to Serie A, with Lazio said to be interested in his services.
