Tommaso Rocchi is ready to give up his Number 9 Lazio jersey in honour of Giorgio Chinaglia. “On Saturday we want to win for him.”
The legend who was top scorer when winning the 1974 Scudetto died on Sunday of a heart attack, aged 64.
He will be commemorated in Saturday’s game with Napoli by a minute’s silence and black armbands, while there are reports Chinaglia’s shirt will have pride of place in the centre-circle before kick-off, then move to the bench.
“It is not a problem for me to retire the Number 9 jersey,” said Rocchi, who currently wears that shirt.
“It was very emotional remembering Giorgio through his teammates, who are all still so close.
“On Saturday we want to win for him, so we can dedicate the victory to Giorgio.”
