It ends a long tenure for D’Aversa, who had taken Parma from Serie C in December 2016 to the top flight with back-to-back promotions, then Serie A safety for another two years.

The 45-year-old is reportedly no longer happy with the project in place at the Stadio Tardini and feels the need for a new challenge.

A replacement has already been found, as Lecce surprisingly sacked Liverani this week, despite the excellent performances he got from a weak team.

Liverani had also been linked with Genoa, but the favourite for that job remains Vincenzo Italiano, who just earned promotion via the Serie B play-offs with Spezia.
